Suresh was born into a middle-class family in Kolhapur and later moved to Gurgaon. His father Ishwar Wadkar worked in cloth mills and his mother cooked food for mill workers.
His father was also a wrestler, and he visited Talwalkar gym on a regular basis.
At the age of 13, Wadkar successfully completed his “Prabhakar” and joined Arya Vidya Mandir as a music teacher in Mumbai.
Singing Career of Suresh Wadkar
In 1976, he entered the Sur-Singar competition and won the competition which was judged by Indian composer Jaidev and Ravindra Jain.
Suresh impressed the judges with his songs, and they offered him the song “Seene Mein Jalan” in the film Gaman (1978).
At that time, our legend Lata Mangeshkar was also impressed with his voice, and she recommended him to various people like Kayanji-Ananadji, and Laxmikant-Pyarlal. They were also impressed with Suresh’s voice and recorded a duet with Lata, “Chal Chameli Bagh Mein” for Krodhi (1981).
